Sorsogon Side Trip - Featuring Pinkish Sands Of Subic Beach And Juag Fish Sanctuary

After our trip to Albay, we headed to Matnog Sorsogon to visit Subic Beach and Juag Fish Sanctuary.  Subic Beach is one of the beautiful beaches in Sorsogon known for it's slightly pinkish sand and crystal clear blue waters. This trip is part of a join-in group tour that I have availed from from Posh Travellers:  https://www.facebook.com/POSH-Travellers-2017125078612019/ .   From Legazpi City in Albay, it takes around 2-3 hours automobile ride to Matnog Sorsogon.  Along the way, we made a quick stop at Barcelona Ruins Park.

After the quick stop and photo opts, we continued our way to Matnog Sorsogon.  Once in Matnog Sorsogon, we headed to the pier for a 20-30 minute boat ride to Subic Beach.

Watch this YouTube video of our trip to Subic Beach and Juag Fish Sanctuary:

After the quick and scenic boat ride we finally arrived at Subic Beach.  The beach is simply stunning and breathtaking.  You will be amazed how the beach is really pristine with a long stretch of white and pinkish sand contrasting the crystal clear blue waters.

After staying for a while in Subic Beach, we then headed to Juag Fish Sanctuary, which is a 10-15 minute boat ride.  The Sanctuary is well known for it's many variety of big salt water fishes.  You can watch the fish either from the bamboo stilt foot bridges or you can swim with them in the fish pens.  The tour here is part of the itinerary but we donated Php100 per person to the owner of the sanctuary which is a little amount compared to the fun you'll have while swimming with fishes.

We spent a little over 2 hours in the sanctuary and headed back to Subic Beach to stay there overnight.

Here are some tips if you visit Subig Beach and Juag Fish Sanctuary:
  1. As always bring cash with you as there are no ATM's in the island and everything is transacted by cash.  Withdraw you cash in the cities or towns prior to visiting the island.
  2. If you want freshly cooked food when in the island, you can buy fresh produce in the market inland and bring them with you.  The locals in the beach offer cooking services at a minimal cost.
  3. Bring your underwater camera to capture your moments while swimming with the fishes.
  4. In Juag Fish Sanctuary, it is prohibited to use sun screen or sun block lotion if your are to swim with the fishes as it can be harmful to them.
  5. If you wish to stay overnight on Subic Beach, bring a tent with you or rent one there.  You can also check with the locals for a room for rent and negotiate with the price.
  6. Best time to visit the beach is on the dry months from Nov-Dec and Mar-May when seas are calm.
My tour was organized by Posh Travelers.
