Seattle is a city in Washington State on the northwest coast of the United States.  It is one of the most visited cities in the US. known for it's iconic attractions, great food, coffee culture, natural beauty, music scene, and hip culture.  But aside from being a tourist destination, Seattle is also a home base for big technology companies like Amazon, Starbucks, Nordstrom, Expedia and Microsoft, that's why business travelers also flock here.  Here are some of the top places and things to do when you are visiting Seattle:

PIKE PLACE MARKET

The Pike Place Market has been an iconic place to visit in Seattle for more than a century.  Founded in 1907, the Market is one of the oldest and largest continuously operating public markets in the United States.  Today, the multilevel space is home to more than 500 shops, vendors, restaurants, and bars.  It is also home to the world famous "Fish Throw".  It is where one of the fish shop called "Pike Place Fish Co." does a bit of a show by throwing and catching fish when they make a sale.  Many tourists wait patiently in front the shop trying to watch and experience this. (Watch YouTube video below showing this spectacle)

  1. If you plan to visit most of the top attractions in Seattle like the Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, Museum of Pop Culture, Chihuly Garden and Glass, etc., purchase the Seattle City Pass.  It will save you more money than buying separate tickets.  Here's a link to purchase tickets:  https://www.citypass.com/seattle-comparison
  2. If you decide to Purchase the Seattle City pass, please note that you still have to book reservations online that will usually require you to enter your desired time of visiting.  The attraction's website will have a section where in you can reserve your spot specifically for City Pass.
  3. The Pike Place Market can be crowded starting at 10AM onwards so it is suggested you visit at an earlier time if you want to stay away from the crowd.
  4. The line in the Original Starbucks can be very long all through out the day specially on weekends. The queue can take 30 mins to an hour long. Best time to go is to really be there way before the opening at 6AM and get in queue right away.  If you cannot make it that early, you may just have to always check until the line starts to shorten.
  5. There are a lot of food stalls and shops in Pike Place Market. You usually don't have to go to a restaurant for breakfast or lunch.  Just by trying out the food shops, you'll get filled while exploring the market itself and the nearby attractions.
  6. Weather in Seattle is cold and often times wet even during summer time.  Make sure you carry a jacket or anything to make you warm.
  7. There are a lot of modes of transportation in Seattle.  Taxis, buses, ride shares, trains, and monorails.  Depending on where you are going and what time it is, there are a lot of options.  At a budget, you can utilize the buses around downtown.  For convenience, you can use taxis or ride shares. From the airport to downtown, train is the cheapest option but taxis are available also during later hours at night.

  9. Seattle offers a variety of food ranging from low budget food stalls to high end restaurants.  So, finding a place to eat here is not a worry.  Seattle is known for their seafood, so make sure to try out seafood restaurants there.
  10. If you are travelling alone or as a couple, I suggest you avail of join-in tours or the hop-on hop-off bus.  This will provide you less hassle on driving through traffic and save money for parking.
  11. Seattle offers variety of accommodations ranging from budget hostels to luxury hotels.  You will have no difficulty finding the best accommodation for you online.  You just have to decide on what location you wish to stay. It is highly recommended to find a hotel in Downtown between 4th Ave to 1st Ave as this will have easier access to major attractions in the city.
