Intramuros... Manila's Heritage Part 1

After over a year abroad, we decided to have an Intramuros trip.  We have been here almost everyday during college years but never really had a tour in the fortress' spots.  It's about time we do this...
First stop is a quick peek on our alma mater - Mapúa Institute of Technology.  A lot has changed since college days.  I noticed most students are more "techy" now.  Everyone I see is either holding a tablet, a smart phone, or a laptop.  Oh well, I guess books and notepads are a thing of the past now.  Also, most of the rooms are fully airconditioned now.  Before, only laboratories and libraries are airconditioned.  Nonetheless, it feels great to be back to our alma mater.

Moving on, we head on to San Agustin Cathedral.  Since there was a wedding that time, we proceed to the museum.  There are a lot of antique paintings and artifacts dating way back spanish colonial times.  Also, there were catacombs wherein prestigious men's remains were placed.  Entrance to the museum is Php100 per person.

Next, we head on to Fort Santiago.  This place used to be cell dungeons of captured men during the spanish era.  This was the last place our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal was held captive before getting shot in Bagumbayan now called Luneta.  Now, it is a tourist attraction and also a place to held events like weddings and cultural concerts.  Fort Bonifacio stretches from the anda circle up to the pasig river area.  Entrance Fee is Php75 and Php50 for children and students.

We have been walking all afternoon and we are starving.  Just in time for dinner, we head to Patio De Conchita in Beaterio St. near Manila Cathedral.  Patio De Conchita is a diner (carinderia style), famous in Intramuros for it's traditional Filipino dishes . For review, pease visit: http://onlyndzinphp.blogspot.com/2014/01/patio-de-conchita-intamuros-manila.html?m=1.  By this, we end day 1...

Day 2, we strolled above and along the walls of Muralla St. passing by Puerta Real and Baluarte De San Andres.  Finally, we reached Baluarte De San Diego.  It is the oldest stone fort in Intramuros.  Now, it is the most sought of wedding venue and pre nuptial place in Manila today.  It's garden is trully an attraction.  Entrance Fee is Php75 and Php50 for children and students.

Thats the end of the first part of our Intramuros tour...
