Hongkong Trip

Hongkong is one of the top destinations in Asia.  It is well known for it's towering skyline, variety of shops, tourist spots, and theme parks.  This time we decided to visit Hongkong together with the kids.  All are excited to start and get on with the tour.

DAY 1
We arrived arround 10am in Hongkong International Airport. After securing our Octopus Card - (a centralized, electronic card used to pay for major transportation in HK like, trains, buses and selected shops) and some HK dollars for pocket money, we headed our hostel via MTR ( Mass Transit Railway).

As we arrived in our hostel, Cosmic Guest House in Tsim Tsa Tsui (click here to visit their website), we freshened up, had a quick bite and head to our first destination:

Salisbury Garden, Hongkong Museum Of Art, Tsim Tsa Tsui Clock Tower

Next, we continued strolling to the harbor area and reached Avenue Of Stars.  It is somewhat similar to Hollywood's Walk of Fame but here they feature HK actors and actresses.

Then we headed to The Peak - Sky Terrace 428.  The place is located in Victoria Peak, on the southern part of the island.  Here you get a great view of Hongkong.

DAY 2

Next day, it's time to give the kids a treat by going to the happiest place on earth... HK Disneyland.  You can get their via MTR.  This will turn out to be a whole day activity.

It was really a great experience for us and the kids. Something all of us will treasure...  Hongkong really is a place to visit specially with your family.

Here are some tips for your visit in Hongkong:
1. Secure an Octopus Card.  You will need it to go through and from any destinations in Hongkong.  It can also be used as payment from some shops.  Just make sure you check your balance so you can reload timely.
2. Have HK dollars pocket money.  Canvas first before dealing with money changers.  Make sure you get a high exchange rate.  It is best you have US dollars for forex. Other's prefer to just withdraw from their atm's that are accepted internationally.
3. For Disneyland and Ocean Park tickets, try to contact your hotel and inquire.  Sometimes, they offer a more discounted rate than buying directly.  Otherwise, you can also buy online through their website.  This will save you the trouble of falling in line.  In Disneyland, there is an automated machine to validate your online ticket purchase.  Just make sure you bring with you the credit card you used for booking because it is required.  Also make print outs of your online booking to be sure.
4. For food, some of the restaurants are on the costly side. So, research on restaurants ahead.  Although there are McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut in most of the locations.  Rice meals are scarce. Be prepared.
5. Be aware of the weather.  It can be cold in most seasons in Hongkong.  In such case, you must have your cold gear with you.
6. Macau is one ferry ride away from Hongkong.  It is recommended that you include it in your itinerary.  We also went to Macau but it is featured in a separate blog.  Click here to view blog for our visit in Macau====>
