Sabang, And The Famed Underground River

Sabang is a town in the northwest part of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan. It's peaceful town is home to beautiful and unspoiled coastline.  It is 1 1/2 - 2 hrs drive from Puerto Princesa Airport to Sabang.  The best way to get there is by shuttle service.  One well-known shuttle service is the Lexus Shuttle Services.  They offer daily scheduled trips to Sabang and other destinations in Palawan. Visit their website for more details click here=====>. You can also make arrangements for a special van service just like what we did. Upon negotiation, we paid Php3,500.00 rountrip van transfers.

We arrived early in Sabang and proceed to our hotel, Daluyon Beach & Mountain Resort (click here for their website).  Good thing, the hotel/resort was very accomodating and allowed us an early check-in.  We ate breakfast, freshen up, and moved on to our first activity.

Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour
Just walking distance from the resort we availed of the tour. The tour is a 30-45 minute paddle boat tour through the protected mangroves along the river adjoining the Sabang Beach. The tour costs Php300.00 per person.

Underground River Tour
The Underground River of Sabang was recently renounced as one of the new wonders of the world.  To get there, you need a motorboat ride from Sabang Port to the cove going to the Underground River

The Underground River passes through under a mountain wherin it is filled with limestone caves. The tour last for about 30 - 45 minutes.  In the dark limestone caves, you will only be equiped by a single spot light so that you will be able to see the beautiful limestone formations. These caves are protected and touching it is strictly prohibited.

Around the resort

Unfortunately, our time is limited...  We had a great time in Sabang and it is one of a kind experience.  What I love about the place is the beauty of the place... It is truly nature at it's best... You can just lie along the beach and just be captivated by the scenery.  It is one of those times that you'll love doing nothing.

Here are some tips if you want to visit Sabang:
1. There are only two(2) major first class resorts in Sabang, Daluyon Beach & Mountain Resort and Sheridan Resorts.  These two(2) resorts can guarantee 24-hour electricity.  Other lower class resorts have limited and scheduled electricity.
2. For backpackers, there are many accommodations along the beach offering rooms as low as Php500.00 per night.
3. Mostly, food is available in the resort and nearby restaurants along the beach, but for budget conscious travelers, you can always proceed to the town proper which is just a 10 minute walk from the beach.
4. It's better if you make reservations for your shuttle service prior to visting Sabang. Lexus Shuttle Service provides these scheduled service.  Go to their website ( http://www.lexusshuttle.com/share-a-van/ ) to know their schedules and make reservations.
5. The Underground River Tour must be reserved and scheduled ahead of time.  For a hassle-free reservation, let the resort do it for you. Just let them know at least one(1) week ahead of time.  Although,  this might cost more.  Another way is to make reservations to their local tourism council which should be done one(1) month ahead of time.  Or, you can avail of the tour packages from different travel agencies. For more information and online reservation, click here =====>
6. If you have your camera with you, make sure you capture your moments.  There are local photographers who will take your pics and offer them for a fee.  These pictures are quite expensive.
7. Make sure you have cash.  There are no ATMs in the area.
8. Palawan have a no littering policy, so be careful with your trash. Make sure you throw them on proper trash bins.
